Mats are provided at this weekly Gentle Yoga class for people with Parkinson’s. The gentle poses are modified for the individual, although participants must be able to stand unassisted and have no significant blood pressure fluctuations as they change positions. Tai Chi For Parkinson’s and Wellness a Chinese exercise of slow circular movements that help promote energy flow and a sense of well-being. This Tai Chi can be done standing or sitting in a chair. You will receive multiple benefits either way. This class is designed to help improve the following: balance, coordination, concentration, srength and mental well-being. The cost is $5 per session. Attend seven sessions and the eighth session is free. As a beginner, your FIRST Session is FREE. New participants are welcome come the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. for orientation. Fitness III is a seated group designed for participants who may need more significant help with activities of daily living. This class will provide appropriate exercise and group activities to counteract the long term emotional impact of PD. $5 per session
This unique exercise program stresses components of strengthening, stretching and aerobics. Fitness classes are supervised by a recreation therapist who will provide guidance to complete exercises, provide assistance as appropriate and monitor response to exercise. The recreational therapists are trained professionals with experience working with people with Parkinson’s disease. Fitness I, II and III are designed to provide fitness opportunities for participants across the continuum of their disease. A free Fitness Assessment is required prior to joining Fitness I, II or III classes.

Free fitness assessments are available Wednesday afternoon and are required prior to participating in the fitness classes. You will meet with a physical therapist for a 30 minute assessment to evaluate your walking, balance, strength and more. To make an appointment call 651-326-2178.

The group begins at 1 p.m. with an exercise class in the gym. Be sure to dress comfortably for exercising and check in at the 2nd floor chapel. Participants will break from 1:45 to 2 p.m. and then participate in a support group from 2 to 3 p.m. Bring questions for discussion with support group members and rehabilitation staff who specialize in Parkinson’s treatment. Guest speakers on various topics are scheduled throughout the year. Snacks and coffee are provided and fa mily members and care providers are welcome. A $5 donation per participant is suggested. Register each month at 612-672-7272. Valet parking at a reduced rate is available in the Gold parking garage underneath the 2512 S. Seventh St. building until 6 p.m. The Blue parking lot is available across the street from the 2512 S. Seventh St. building. Metered parking is also available on the street.
